Teachers
Kat trained in Goa, India in 2014 where she completed her 200 hours Teacher Training with Yogaprema, a RYS Registered School of Yoga with Yoga Alliance, after two years of study and practice with her teacher, Lila Conway. Kat has practised many aspects of yoga intensely ever since and has deepened her knowledge of yoga theory and practise through self-study, further training and CPD courses and workshops.
She is qualified in Hormone Yoga Therapy as created by Dr Dinah Rodrigues, Yin Yoga and has a diploma in Yoga Therapy. Her love and passion lies in the body’s ability to heal itself so she has naturally found herself specialising in the incredible practice of Yoga for Hormonal Balance. Since studying Hormone Yoga Therapy, Yin Yoga and Yoga Therapy, Kat has developed her own Yoga for Hormonal Balance programmes comprising the teachings of Dr Dinah Rodrigues with elements of Yin Yoga and theory from Yoga Therapy. She offers this expertise in three different programmes. This is her chosen area of expertise but like with everything in life, it’s a journey and she’s still learning everyday. Kat is always trying to deepen her knowledge on this fascinating topic and wishes to invite you on this journey alongside her. Kat has also taught Hormone Yoga Therapy modules on Yoga Teacher Training Programmes.
With eight years of teaching experience, Kat has worked with many different people and in a variety of environments. She has held workshops, courses, retreat days and taught on weekend retreats. Currently, Kat is focusing on working closely with individual clients through her Yoga for Hormonal Balance programmes. Alongside her yoga teaching, Kat works as a Mental Health Recovery Worker at one of the UK’s biggest Mental Health charities and is due to start studying for a Masters in Psychology.
In 2016, Kat won Runner-Up in the MoveGB Best Yoga Studio in Bath and Bristol awards. In February 2020, The Secret Yoga Space (Kat’s former studio) was selected as one of the top five yoga studios in and around Bath on GoSweat (now known as Heka).
Kat has taken further training with Dr Yogi to support injured students. She has a solid awareness of how to practise with injuries and can offer adjustments to help you to either: make a posture more comfortable or use bespoke exercises to strengthen and support mobility. Because of this, Kat is recommended by physiotherapists. Both Body in Motion Rehab and Chartered Physiotherapists Portland Therapy Centre refer clients with confidence to Kat for private mentoring sessions to enhance rehabilitation.
Kat focuses on her client’s needs, using yoga as a tool to help relieve their discomfort from their symptoms. She aims to empower her clients to be able to manage their health and symptoms holistically through yoga postures, breathing and meditation.
Kat is also trained to teach teenagers and young adults through the internationally recognised and accredited organisation, TeenYoga.
KAT’S TEACHING STYLE
Kat teaches from the heart. She sees yoga as fundamental to her life; it’s her passion and this shines through in her teaching. Her focus within each class is on using breath awareness to become aware of the experience of just being, to truly feel your body and the moment you’re in. In every class, Kat focuses on conscious movement and encourages her students to stay in the present. This approach calms mental fluctuations and establishes a sense of tranquility in the mind. Kat expresses that her approach to yoga works with what she calls the ‘internal’ body; the glands, hormones and nervous system. Her classes take you from the ‘outer’ body of muscles and joints to the inner workings of the human body and mind.
Alongside this approach, Kat also encourages intuitive movement. She believes real yoga is about listening to your own body - not forcing yourself to achieve a shape your body is not yet ready for. Alignment cues will help you drop into postures and become aware of the sensations you may feel but Kat is aware everybody is different. You are the only person who can feel your body so Kat creates a safe space for you to alter postures to suit your needs. Her style strongly resembles the principles of a Yin Yoga class even when it is not a Yin class. Modifications are always given and props frequently used. You are never expected to hold something that doesn’t feel right for you.
Expect her to challenge your understanding of your body. Kat will ensure you are safe but she doesn’t expect you to follow blindly. Yoga is your journey. You must feel, you must connect to your own body to get the benefits this beautiful practice can bring. Kat brings an authentic yet modern approach to her classes. She teaches true yoga including mantras, chanting, breathwork, postures and relaxation. It’s a full practice proven to slow the mental fluctuations of the mind, leading to deep relaxation that rejuvenates and refreshes the body and mind.
Kat’s yoga classes are perfect for those looking to escape the noise of every day life, and thanks to the limited number of places available at her online classes, it's perfect for those that don't want to get lost in the crowd, allowing Kat Kalindi to give the time and attention to her students that they deserve. Why not take one of her classes after a long, busy day and allow yourself to be held in a nourishing space? Rejuvenate your mind. Learn how to rest properly and what it means to be stress-free.
